Creating a new art made of Iwate’s history and culture that demonstrate its rich perspective on nature, inspired by its generous Sanriku sea and historical environment, and on the themes related to Iwate like the legends of Tono and the fairy tales of Kenji Miyazawa. We will unveil and show to the world a recovering and reconstructing Iwate, disaster-stricken area.

“Miyazawa Kenji and Takahata Isao”

Special project showing masterpieces of Isao TAKAHATA, greatest animation director Kenji MIYAZAWA loved, and Japanese and foreign animated short films that same director loved. The opening event “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya” will be shown on big screen, under the starry sky of Miyazawa Kenji Dowa Mura.

Original images exhibition at Kenji’s School, on the theme of ”Ginga-tetsudo-no-hoshi (Stars of the Milky Way Railway)”, a picture story remixed from Kenji MIYAZAWA’s masterpiece “Ginga-tetsudo-no-yoru (Night of the Milky Way Railway)”, made by Masafumi GOTOH, leader of the major Japanese rock band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION.

A gift from Chuichiro TAKEDA, father of Tohoku’s folk songs “Lullabies and folk songs”

While discovering all the efforts of Chuichiro TAKEDA, born in Tono and said to be the father of Tohoku’s folk songs, people will be able to enjoy the performance of folk singer Naoyuki HARADA, the talk between Gyouji OSADA, music culture researcher, and Yoshiko NISHIDATE, director of the Japan Lullaby Association, as well as the Tono Boys and Girls Choir performing children’s songs and lullabies handed down in the region of Tono.

Shiwa cultural heritage week “Tokutan Castle Festival”

Talk event and traditional arts performance themed on the history of “Tokutan Castle”, last line of defense of the Japanese nation under the Ritsuryo codes and celebrating its 50th anniversary since it was designated as National Historic Site, and the culture of sake brewing as home to Nanbu Toji (a major group of master brewers).
